Collectables are desirable objects from the 1920s onwards. Collectables from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s are the most desirable, although the 1980s is catching up in a big way as well. The funny thing is that objects that were mass-produced and common place in homes, are now often seen as desirable. Take the material Bakelite - once used for telephones, light switches, ash trays and such like, is now collectable. The golden rule of collecting is always start with something that you like or appeals to you, then you'll surely have fun along the way.
