ABOUT?

Hello!

Jon Green voice-over
I'm Jon(pronounced the same as John -/dʒɒn/).

I've worked for a lot of different people and have lived in many different places  but I was born in England, near Brighton and grew up near London. In fact, I always describe Brighton as my soul town! It's also the spiritual home of the Mod subculture and the film Quadrophenia was partly filmed there.

SKYPE FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS

27/10/2019

I have done a number of Skype classes with secondary schools for EDL or European Day of Languages, where I speak to groups of students, beamed into their classroom. Here is a sample of blog posts that the schools or students have written about their experience (in Polish language only):

School zs39
School zsberg
School sp3nt
School sp3swardez

It is very rewarding for them (quite often it is the first time they have spoken to a British native speaker and for me as I like to inspire them with some British Culture (often about London or the Royal Family).

digital technology in education - about

14/4/2014

What does  digital in education involve?

This is about using and deploying new technology into schools classrooms and passing on information to others. I work with new technology to help improve learning and collaboration in education and to lead the way to a brighter way of learning.  Currently we are using iPads in the classroom, together with a smart table, PCs, IWBs and an XBox console. I have been giving teacher-training workshops on this subject, as well as writing blog posts, attending and speaking at conferences. My aim is to convince educators that new technology must be integrated into schools to keep up with modern ways of learning.

voice-overs about

What kind of voice-overs can a British voice-over artist living abroad do?

Doing voice-overs is a challenging and interesting line of work that tests your personal and linguistic abilities to the fullest, whilst working under pressure. I do a variety of voice-overs but the most common is providing the voice-over to a video for the international version of a project that a company or organisation is currently promoting. There is usually a version in the common language to start with, then they ask me to provide the English version. Advertising campaigns, Facebook campaigns and special events are the most common types of commercial projects I do voice-overs for.
The next category is educational voice-overs. I get some work from English language publishers who create textbooks and therefore need people to voice the listening exercises in their books. I usually go to a studio that collaborates with a publisher and then spend a few hours reading monologues and dialogues. This is both rewarding and tiring work but the realisation that your voice will be played in classrooms throughout the land makes it all worthwhile.

tongue-twisters in the park

Armed with a handheld portable microphone, one fine day last summer I was asked to help out at the British Council stand in Pole Mokotowskie Park in Warsaw.  The idea was to entice people to come in and try various tongue-twisters.  It was great to do some hosting and even young kids were trying the tongue-twisters in the end.  I did the tongue-twisters again as part of the opening of a British Council off-site school.

the five gentlemen

In one morning's session we recorded professional videos at a recording studio in Warsaw.  Five of us sat in chat show-style seating and proceeded to tell anecdotes, observations, comments and an analysis of English pronunciation and the length and breadth of the complexity of the different accents, slang, dialects and so on.
It was a brave effort on our part as we had no script, just a loose brief with an outline of what was expected.  In all, 10 videos were created with, dare I say it, Monty Python-like animation (and humour!)
It was a light-hearted look and by the end of the session we really had covered every subject possible and were quite exhausted.  Ultimately, was not only fun but  also a great experience and something for everyone to have a laugh at once in a while.

What do you think?  Did we succeed in entertaining and informing at the same time?
